The Challenge

In 2023, CarniStore approached Cloudshelf with a clear vision: they wanted to extend their product offering inside their physical butcher location. The in-store space, while premium and well-curated, couldn't house the full breadth of their product catalog. They imagined a kiosk-based system that would enable staff to upsell products not physically present—offering an extended aisle of premium meat products, seasonal items, and gourmet accompaniments.

Additionally, CarniStore needed a bespoke checkout experience tailored to the UAE market, offering Apple Pay and other local payment options beyond the default Shopify checkout. The solution had to be seamless, fast, and familiar for customers.

The Cloudshelf solution

Cloudshelf partnered with CarniStore to deliver a dual-mode kiosk system that supports:

  • Staff-assisted selling – empowering butchers to present and upsell extended products.
  • Customer self-service – allowing walk-in customers to browse, select, and pay independently.

To meet local checkout preferences, CarniStore leveraged Cloudshelf’s API documentation to create a custom checkout flow. This included our mobile checkout with QR code integration, enabling customers to quickly finalise purchases using Apple Pay and other preferred methods.

Rollout & adoption

CarniStore initially deployed two Cloudshelf kiosks in their flagship Dubai butcher location. These kiosks serve as interactive digital shelves, giving customers access to a broader catalog, exclusive cuts, and seasonal specials.

Sales staff were trained to use the kiosks to enhance the shopping experience, while the intuitive UI also encouraged self-service use by customers.

Encouraged by the success in-store, CarniStore has expressed intent to expand the kiosk deployment to include additional units for pop-up events and potential new retail locations.

Results & impact

Since launching Cloudshelf, CarniStore has seen outstanding results. Each month, the kiosks are responsible for hundreds of closed sales, and to date, they’ve generated thousands of dirhams (AED) in additional revenue through this digital in-store channel.
